LAURA SHAW

YOUR FAMILY

Firstly, I would like to thank you for considering me as your family photographer. As a mum, I understand how rapidly life moves and suddenly that little baby is feeling heavier in your arms, no longer in nappies, talking more, going to school (sob). Those gummy smiles replaced with seemly huge teeth, then proudly showing you how tall she is against you. Or worse, she’s suddenly in your make up drawer and applying eyeliner better than you (ok, maybe that’s just me!) These beautiful stages are fleeting and this is why its so important to bottle up these amazing times so that you can keep them forever.

If you want to capture your family naturally, no studio or awkward smiles staring into the lens. If you want to show off the little quirks, the cheeky smiles, the ferocious body slams, the quiet cuddles and the rambunctious energy, I want to capture it.

Taking this time to document your relationship with your children is essential for them to see. Growing in the knowledge of how important they are to you will shape your children into the wonderful, confident and amazing people they will become.

"SHE WAS PATIENT WITH A CRYING NEWBORN & ETHAN WAS EXTREMELY TAKEN BY HER CALM NATURE. IN FACT HE NOW WANTS TO ALSO BE A 'TOGRAPHER' THANK YOU AGAIN & WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ALL THE IMAGES."

cAPTURING YOUR FAMILY

I've learnt the hard way, never ask a child how old they think you are! Kids are brutally honest, fun loving, thrill seekers and I love to see their energy. With three younger brothers, experience in childcare and my own kids, I am very confident I can get your little ones to open up and show me their gorgeous personality. I shoot with natural light so children are free to roam outside or chill inside somewhere with their favourite toy.

My aim is to capture your family as you naturally are. I like to spend a bit of time getting to know your children, find out what they enjoy doing and then capture them in their element! I try to encourage sibling photos as candidly as possible, but will provide instruction when needed and will always follow their lead. Capturing the entire family interacting is always fun. I love getting little glimpses into your family life.

Coming from a large family, our home was always full, chaotic and noisy. The energy I love to see when I'm photographing a family.

cAPTURING YOUR NEWBORN

I believe newborn shoots should be baby led. No extreme posing or positioning. Your baby is already perfect just as they are. My aim is to photograph their tiny details for you to remember. I prioritise their little eyelashes, button nose, tiny ears, dinky fingers, tiny toes, I'm also a sucker for a hairline and wrinkly little knees!

Allowing plenty of time for your baby to feed, cry and be soothed and only photograph them when they are happy and settled. As a Mumma myself, I understand how babies pick up any anxiety from their mum so I am happy going with the flow, making sure they are content every step of the way. Boobing or bottle feeding I am happy to capture it all for you.

Newborn shoots are best carried out at home, in a well lit spot in the bedroom, nursery or living room. We can have a chat and talk about the type of images you would like. Of course we can include older siblings and Mum and Dad too.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN is the best time to photograph our newborn?

Anytime is good!

If you want images whilst they are brand new, still super sleepy and all curled up then sometime in their first two weeks is best. We can make a provisional date and as soon as baby arrives we can get the date confirmed.

Some people prefer to wait until baby is a little older - around 10 weeks or so, this way they look more like the little person they will become.

It all depends on your personal preference.

WHERE SHALL WE TAKE THE PHOTOS?

For family shoots, personally I love a mix of indoor home shots and some outdoor shots. Capturing your little ones, doing what they love at home and then in a park exploring. I want to see their little personalities shine through!

For newborn shoots, photographing you at home with the natural light is perfect. Working around your baby's schedule is always best. I don't rush these shoots so everyone can relax.

WHAT SHALL WE WEAR?

This is a great question, your choices will have a big impact on the final portraits. Once we have your session booked, understanding the time of year, I can send you guidance and discuss options over the phone. In general, I would recommend plain, timeless clothing, avoid patterns, prints and matching outfits.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD FOR AN OUTDOOR SHOOT?

As an experienced photographer I am used to working in all types of weather conditions. The only times I will reschedule a session is when it is forecast for heavy rain or strong winds. I do ask you to be flexible on the day of your shoot as sometimes we may have to adjust the time we had planned to avoid a shower or two!

When will We see our images?

I love to share teasers the same day if possible. I am super impatient by nature so don't like to keep anyone waiting. I love sharing images on social media too and can tag you in the pictures if you're happy.

All images are added to my gallery within 2 weeks for you to make your selections. There is no hard sell from me, you only buy the images you love!

CAN WE BRING OUR DOG?

Oh yes! I love dogs, besides they are part of the family!

(I apologise now for my dog voice, if I could turn it off - I would.)

HOW DO I BOOK?
